Flooding devastates communities across Yemen
Heavy seasonal rains in August 2025 triggered severe flash floods across multiple governorates in Yemen, resulting in large-scale displacement, casualties, and damage to infrastructure. The worst affected governorates include Aden, Marib, Lahj, and Al Hodeidah, with both displaced and host communities experiencing significant losses.
More heavy rainfall is expected and will likely worsen flood risks, especially in the lowland areas of western and southern regions.
Initial assessments indicate that 77,441 people across Yemen have been impacted and, by 28 August 2025, 82 people had been reported injured, and 55 deaths had been recorded.
Islamic Relief’s response
Islamic Relief has mobilised emergency response teams and is conducting rapid needs assessments in the Aden, Lahj, and Al Hodeidah governorates. We are also coordinating our response in close coordination with local authorities and clusters.
With your support, our emergency relief response, which will be sustained until November 2025, includes the provision of food, clean water, temporary shelter and other essentials.
Our six to 12 month plans will focus on the restoration of livelihoods, the rehabilitation of houses, and repair of critical infrastructure.
Years of conflict force 24 million people to rely on humanitarian aid
After years of conflict, economic downturn and shortfalls in humanitarian funding, Yemen now teeters on the brink of famine.
The humanitarian catastrophe in one of the world’s poorest countries has reached epic proportions, with a child dying every 10 minutes from preventable causes like diarrhoea, breathing infections and malnutrition.

Our ongoing support for the people of Yemen
We work in 17 of the country’s 22 governorates – delivering aid to many hard-to-reach areas. Our country office is in the capital of Sana’a, and we have eight sub-offices in Dhamar, Amran, Aden, Taiz, Hodeida, Saada, Maarib and Rymah.
With your support, we:
- Distribute essential food aid to 2 million people every month
- Help over 800,000 people access clean drinking water
- Established 167 health facilities across the country
- Provide child protection and psychosocial support activities
- Ensure water, sanitation and hygiene services for communities in the Taiz governorate
- Help lower malnutrition rates among children and mothers, through improved food security, outpatient treatment programmes, and training on best practices regarding malnutrition for mothers and local healthcare workers
- Support sustainable livelihoods
- Deliver winter essentials
