Like all agencies in Gaza, Israel’s total blockade has forced Islamic Relief to reduce its operations. While our food distributions have significantly slowed (because we cannot replenish urgently-needed supplies due to the blockade), we are continuing with other lifesaving activities every day.
We have cleaned dozens of shelters for displaced families, to prevent deadly diseases from spreading, and are supporting more than 21,000 orphaned children and their guardians with cash payments to help them survive.
Through our maternal healthcare programme, hundreds of pregnant women receive regular check-ups, blood tests, vitamins and ultrasound scans at Al Awda hospital, where we previously provided vital equipment such as incubators that are still being used now.
The extreme suffering in Gaza is entirely preventable. Aid trucks are waiting to deliver food, medicine and other supplies as soon as Israel reopens the crossings, and we are ready to resume food distributions the moment that aid is allowed in, Insha’Allah.
We continue to call for aid to be allowed into Gaza, and for Israel to adhere to international law, end the siege, and allow full humanitarian access to everyone in need.
