Growing Our Impact, One Smile at a Time

In 2025, Islamic Relief South Africa (IRSA), in collaboration with the University of the Western Cape (UWC) Faculty of Dentistry and Tygerberg Hospital, operated a mobile dental clinic to bring essential oral healthcare directly to underserved communities. By removing barriers such as distance, transport costs, and long waiting times, the clinic enabled vulnerable individuals to access free, quality dental services close to home.

• Over 1,554 patients received dental treatment.
• 13 schools benefited from on-site dental outreach services.
• 226 elderly patients were provided with dentures. 

The strong uptake of services highlighted both the scale of unmet oral healthcare needs and the effectiveness of the mobile clinic model.

Building on the success of the mobile clinic initiative, the Sponsor a Smile project aims to expand access to free dental care and restore even more smiles across the Western Cape.

Through weekly community clinic rotations, remote outreach missions, and denture support for vulnerable elderly patients, the programme will continue delivering essential oral healthcare directly to communities most in need.
